Enterococcus faecalis is aGram-positive facultative anaerobic bacteria, in aquacul- ture,mainly has the following functions:
1. Maintain the microecological balance of the digestive : Enterococcus faecalis can proliferate after colonizing the intestinal , inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms, regulate the intestinal microecological balance, and reduce the occurrence of intestinal diseases.
2. nutritional eﬀect, promote growth: Enterococcus faecalis can improve the activity of protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase and other digestive enzymes in the digestive tract of aquatic animals, which can promote the decomposition of protein, fat and complex carbohydrates in feed, thereby improving the digest- ibility and absorption rate of feed and promoting the growth of aquatic animals.
3. enhance immunity: Enterococcus faecalis helps to enhance the immune system, eﬀectively enhance lysozyme activity, antioxidant activity, catalase activity or enhance the expression of immune genes, such as regulating the expression of oxidative stress response and release of stress genes, stimulate macrophage production of cytokines, these factors play an important role in the immune system of aquatic animals.
